Uzbekistan is going to increase its capacity in the field of renewable energy sources by attracting private investment for the construction of 58 microhydroelectric power plants. This is reported by the Uzbek news portal UPL24.

According to the publication, Uzbekistan currently generates 6.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year at the HPP. When implementing the tasks of expanding the use of renewable energy sources, it is possible to increase the capacity of hydropower by another 1 GW.

To achieve this goal, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan instructed to design 36 medium-sized and large hydroelectric power plants on the sections of the Pskov, Naryn and Tupalang rivers. The private sector will be involved in the construction of 26 microelectric power plants with a total capacity of 9 MW. Also, the government plans to build three hydroelectric power stations on the Great Andijan Canal with a total capacity of 23 MW and one hydroelectric power station on the Tulang River with a capacity of 16 MW.

In addition, Uzbekistan plans to install solar panels with a total capacity of 1.7 kW on the territory of enterprises, social facilities and residential buildings.
