Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov held a meeting with the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabev in Astana.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed the main areas of cooperation and development of international transport corridors, including rail and road transport, as well as the implementation of joint projects in the field of construction of transport infrastructure.

In particular, joint projects were discussed for the construction of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway and the multimodal transport corridor Belarus-Russia-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan, as well as accelerating transportation through the digitalization of cargo documentation.

The Kazakh side supported the initiative of Uzbekistan to build the Termez-Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway. The Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, Marat Karabaev, noted that the implementation of this project contributes to the development of regional communications and trade for the countries of Central Asia.

Particular attention was paid to creating favorable conditions for international freight transport by road using modern digital technologies. The parties expressed satisfaction with the introduction of the E-permit system to speed up the cargo transportation process.

As a result of the meeting, a “road map” was signed for the development of strategic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in the field of transport and logistics for 2024-2025.
