In 2024, the share of renewable energy sources is planned to reach 18% in the total volume of power generation in Uzbekistan, Energy Minister Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov said. Together with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan it is planned to export "green" energy to Hungary, Romania and other European countries.

Uzbek Energy Minister Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov spoke about plans to increase the share of renewable energy sources in electricity generation at the Energy Week (UEW 2024) opened in Tashkent May 14, Gazeta.uz reports.

"We have an ambitious goal to achieve by the end of this year - to increase the share of renewable energy sources to 18% [of total electricity production]. And when we talk about renewable energy, we only consider solar and wind energy, which will account for 40% of our energy mix by 2030 by running 25 GW of solar and wind plants," he said.

By commissioning new capacities in 2023, Uzbekistan reached 18% of solar and wind generation during daytime last Sunday (May 12), Minister said.
