On October 14, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched nine major investment projects worth $2 billion in Tashkent region including renewable energy facilities. The projects include a technology park, a textile industrial park, four hydroelectric power plants, two energy storage systems, and a solar power plant, according to a report by Spot, citing Uzbekistan president's press service.
A notable project is a $240 million solar power plant in Buki district, developed in partnership with China's China Datang. Once operational, the plant will generate 576 million kWh of electricity annually, supplying energy to 240,000 households. Future plans for Tashkent region include increasing generation capacity to 6.5 GW and electricity output to 24 billion kWh per year.
Two additional projects involve the construction of 200 MW energy storage systems in Parkent and Pskent districts, developed with China Energy Overseas Investment for $220 million. These systems aim to prevent blackouts during peak demand.
The remaining four projects are hydroelectric power plants with a combined capacity of 340 MW, costing $880 million. By 2028, Tashkent region is set to implement a total of 23 renewable energy projects, with a combined capacity of around 2.4 GW and a total investment of $4.8 billion.
