About 126 million dollars will be allocated for the implementation of the second phase of the project for the reconstruction of the Kairakkum hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan.

As reported by "Avesta", the modernization of hydropower plants will be carried out at the expense of financial resources of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

This hydropower facility is funded under the project “Modernization of the Kairakkum hydropower station with the aim of increasing resilience to climate change”.

The total amount of the project is $ 126 million, of which $ 38 million is the EBRD state loan, $ 27 million preferential loan, $ 23 million grant from the Green Climate Fund and 35 million euros is the state loan of the European Investment Bank.

The project envisages the completion of the restoration of the Kairakkum hydropower plant with a maximum increase in the current installed capacity from 126 MW to 174 MW.

The project is expected to start this year and be completed in 2024.

Earlier it was reported that a consortium of companies, which includes General Elecktric Hydro (France), General Elecktric Renewadle (Switzerland) and Cobra Instalaciones Servision SA (Spain), will deal with the project. It is expected that the relevant documents on the implementation of the second phase of the project will be signed between the state-owned Barki Tojik holding and the consortium.
