First Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Davlatali Said held talks with Asian Bank Development (ADB) President Takehiko Nakao on the sidelines of the 52nd annual meeting of ADB, which runs from May 1 to May 5, 2019 on Fiji Island.

 ADB reports tht the parties discussed bilateral cooperation, including the implementation of infrastructure projects, in particular the construction of roads, energy projects, tourism development, support to the private sector, climate change issues, as well as the development of ADB’s partnership strategy with Tajikistan for the period from 2021 to 2025.

Davlatali Said is the ADB Governor from Tajikistan and heads the Tajik delegation at the annual meeting. Meanwhile, today, on May 3rd,  during the opening ceremony of the 52nd annual meeting of the ADB Board of Governors, Takehiko Nakao presented a report on the activities of the bank last year. So, according to him, the volume of loans provided by ADB in 2018 rose to a record $ 21.6 billion, an increase of almost 10% compared with $ 19.7 billion in the previous year.

He reminded the ceremony participants that last July, ADB adopted Strategy 2030, in which the bank will work in six priority areas, such as addressing poverty and reducing inequalities, health and education, gender equality, and climate change. According to Takehiko Nakao, in 2018 ADB invested almost $ 3.6 billion for these purposes. Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998. So far, ADB has approved aid for the country totaling more than $ 1.7 billion.
