Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim said about $7.5 billion are to be earmarked to develop the rail industry that is a strategic sector in the country, the press office of the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan reported.

About 70% of Tajikistan’s imports and exports are transported by rail, Ibrohim said. The authorities of the Republic are set to implement over 10 state rail industry development projects with the total cost of about $7.5 billion.

In his speech, the Minister of Transport invited development partners and international financial institutions to consider financing priority projects, particularly the construction and modernisation of transport and roadside infrastructure on transnational transport corridors.

Ibrohim emphasised the importance of developing multimodal transport routes connecting Southeast and Central Asia, Russia, Iran, Turkey and European countries. The Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey corridor that offers the shortest route from China through Tajikistan is used actively.

The Minister delivered a speech at the session «Development of multimodal transnational transport corridors passing through the countries of Asia and the Middle East» of the International Economic Forum «Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum» in Kazan.
