At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on February 1, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov touched on the topic of wheat and cotton production and announced the redistribution of arable land.
According to the state news agency, the President said that “İt is necessary to redistribute arable land, depending on the crops that will be grown on them. This year we have to produce 1 million 600 thousand tons of wheat and 1 million 50 thousand tons of raw cotton. Next year, the volume of grown wheat should reach 1 million 400 thousand tons, and the production of cotton for newly built factories and for export should reach 1 million 250 thousand tons. ”
For the first time in the last 10 years, the President lowered the plan for wheat production and increased it for cotton. Note that the last two years, the plan for the collection of wheat has not been implemented, which led to a deficit of bread and bakery products in the country.
İn October 2018, the President ordered to stop the sale of raw cotton to foreign countries and begin to process it independently.
The meeting was also instructed to increase the production of livestock products and vegetables, melons, grapes and fruits. A week earlier, Berdymukhamedov instructed to grow more potatoes.
