Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have agreed to build Trans-Caspian Fiber Optic - a fiber-optic communication line between the two countries along the bottom of the Caspian Sea.The parties signed the agreement within the framework of the 12th Turkmentel-2019 telecommunications exhibition.

The cable will run from Siyazan to Turkmenbashi. Azerbaijan’s AzerTelecom and Turkmenistan’s Turkmentelecom are the telecommunication operators of the project. The implementation of this project will strengthen the partnership in improving telecommunication transit routes between Asia and Europe.

At present, Turkmenistan has five international joints of the main fiber-optic communication lines laid throughout the country - Ashgabat - Badzhigiran (Iran), Serhetabat - Herat (Afghanistan), Imamnazar - Akina (Afghanistan), Turkmenabat - Bukhara (Uzbekistan) and Garabogaz - Fetisov (Kazakhstan).

The presence of high-tech systems in the field of telecommunications is an integral factor in the country's socio-economic development and successful international cooperation, which necessitates further modernization and the active involvement of new equipment, and innovative technologies in this industry.
