On January 24, Ashgabat signed the Agreement on cooperation in the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan transmission line project. It was concluded between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and TAPP-500 Power Transmission Line FZE, a subsidiary of Çalyk Holding A.Ş. (Turkey).

According to Turkmenportal, the current meeting was organized on behalf of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in order to develop a legal framework for mutual partnership on the construction of a 220 kW power transmission line. In accordance with the decree of the head of state, issues related to the laying of a transnational energy highway directly through the territory of our country to the Turkmen-Afghan border in the direction of Mary HPP - the city of Herat of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan were agreed.

In January 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and Çalyk Holding A.Ş in this area. Recall, during the laying of the foundation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline section in February 2018, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) Transmission Line Agreement was signed between the governments of the project participating countries. In addition to the energy supply of all infrastructure facilities of this highway, the future power transmission line will provide the opportunity to export electricity to Pakistan and other countries of South Asia in transit through Afghanistan.
