President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on Friday. It was reported that he came to Istanbul on a study visit to attend the summit.

According to the official Turkmen media, both leaders reiterated their readiness to further strengthen cooperation after exchanging views on the status and prospects of cooperation.

It was noted that the priority areas of cooperation include trade, economy, energy, industry, transport, communication, the construction sector and many other fields.

During the meeting, the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Turkey exchanged views on current issues of regional and global issues and emphasized the intention of the parties to continue constructive cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

Presidents of the Turkic Council also discussed the agenda of the summit. They expressed their opinion that Turkmenistan's decision to join the Council as an observer will contribute to the further development of effective interstate cooperation in a wide variety of fields.

Also, at the end of the meeting, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated their support for the full development of cooperation between the two countries.
