Ongoing work on Turkmenistan's participation in the agreements on the International Transit Tariff and the Railways Cooperation Organization Common Transit Tariff was reported at the country's Government meeting on January 14.

Participating in the agreements will allow the country to develop a convenient platform for agreeing on joint tariffs along its China and European routes.

According to Mammethan Çakiyev, Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency of the Council of Ministers, it is necessary to implement an appropriate competitive price policy in order to increase the volume of container traffic, to encourage the intensification of international transport corridors in the China-Europe direction and the opening of a new railway.

Turkmenistan Railways, as a full member of OSJD, explored all possibilities to participate in agreements that will help improve the country's transport and logistics system, study timetable information and expand the geography of rail transit.

In addition, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated that the country has a solid geographical location, a solid transportation and transit potential, and emphasized the international importance of the China - Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan - Iran railway, which is an important link in the intercontinental transportation infrastructure.

The head of state approved the proposals for the unification of the agreements on the International Transit Tariff and the Common Transit Tariff and instructed the issues to be examined in detail in this direction.
