The first summit of the Heads of State of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Türkiye, held on Wednesday in Turkmenistan’s Avaza National Tourist Zone, resulted in the signing of a number of documents on the further development of relations between the countries.

The Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ilham Aliyev first held the narrow format talks. The meeting then continued in expanded format with the participation of the countries’ delegations, according to the official Turkmen media.

Following the talks, President of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Türkiye, and the heads of the ministries and departments of the three countries participated in ceremony of adopting the joint statement and signing several documents. These documents include:

  • Agreement between the governments of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Türkiye on trade and economic cooperation;
  • Framework program on cooperation in the sphere of science, education and culture for 2023-2025 between the Government of Turkmenistan, the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Türkiye;
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the governments of Turkmenistan Azerbaijan and Türkiye on the establishment of the Joint Consultative Commission on Customs Cooperation;
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Türkmengaz (Turkmen Gas) State Concern, the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye on further development of cooperation in the energy field;
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Türkiye on further development of cooperation in transport field.

In preparations for the summit, the heads of foreign ministries, energy and transport agencies of the three countries held talks on Tuesday in Avaza.
